What doctors don't know about the drugs they prescribe | Ben Goldacre
When a new drug gets tested, the results of the trials should be published for the rest of the medical world -- except much of the time, negative or inconclusive findings go unreported, leaving doctors and researchers in the dark. In this impassioned talk, Ben Goldacre explains why these unreported instances of negative data are especially misleading and dangerous. Dispensing and Medication Counseling: Video#1: Patient Counseling in the Pharmacy
Dispensing and Medication Counseling: Video#1 - Patient Counseling in the Pharmacy During patient counseling, a pharmacist must have good attitude, technical knowledge and communicating skills. These traits are all dependent on one another; in the absence of one, a pharmacist’s counsel may be inefficient or may be misunderstood. Patient counseling also plays a vital role on medication compliance and adherence. This, as pharmacists, is our contribution to improve and promote patient care.

Electronic Prescribing and Administration of Medicines (EPMA) system
This film was created for the Logica sponsored Innovation in Healthcare category of the 2012 Isle of Wight NHS Awards held in November 2012. The Electronic Prescribing and Administration of Medicines (EPMA) system enables one drug database to be used across the medicines trail, interfacing with all aspects of medicines management. This is a Trust wide change with impact on all patients and all clinical healthcare staff. One of the most commonly 'misplaced' documents was the paper drug chart and this has been removed altogether maintaining continuity of care. Staff find it easy to order products from pharmacy and are able to prescribe for any patient from anywhere. Missed doses have fallen by 50% as the system flags up doses required rather than having to search every drug chart. For more information visit www.iow.nhs.uk/awards.

SultanMedico (OTC) medicines Episode 1
Episode No. 1 Hi, welcome to this special SultanMedico episode. My name is Sultan Ahmed Today we are going to talk about over-the-counter (or OTC) medicines, Are you ready? Okay! Let's start! First of all, do you know about pharmacy? Of course! A pharmacy is a store where people go to pick up their medication. Whether it is a prescription medication or a OTC medication. Do you knoe about OTC? OTC is an acronym for "over-the-counter." Over-the-counter drugs are medicines that you can buy at stores without a prescription. A prescription is a written direction from your doctor regarding use of a medicine. You bring your prescription to a pharmacy for the preparation of the medicine; you will not be able to purchase particular medications unless you have a doctor's prescription. The symbol of prescription is Rx. If you see a drug with the Rx symbol on the label, you will know the drug is not sold over-thecounter. All right, that's it for today. Thank you for watching!

Generika 101: Health Promotion Video on Generic vs Branded Medicines
This video aims to inform viewers on the differences and similarities between generic and branded medicines. Transcript: Hi! Dahil ALAGA KA SA GENERIKA!

Understanding your medication and how it may affect you is crucial to your safety. Here are some questions you should ask your pharmacist. What is the name of the drug and how is it spelled? What are the meanings of abbreviations and where can you find more information about it? Also ask if there are any generic alternatives. You should know what the medication is supposed to do and how long it will take to achieve that result. Make sure you know how to take the medication and how many times a day you need to take it, and if a certain time of day is preferred over another. Ask if you have any other options: what will happen if you took a wrong type of medication and wrong dosage. Ask if you should avoid alcohol, herbs, food, other medications, or activities that will alter the efficacy of a medication. Always be aware of the common side effects, and if there's a way to reduce the chances of them developing. Also be sure to know what side effects you should contact the pharmacist or doctor about if they occur. Other questions you should ask are: Can I take this medication if I am pregnant or breastfeeding? What are the risks associated with the medication? What are the symptoms of an allergic reaction? Are there any symptoms that require emergency medical help? When should the dosage be changed or the medication be stopped? Those are some questions that you can ask a Generika Pharmacist. Patient counseling is one of the services that is being offered by Generika Drugstore. Aside from this, we also offer free blood pressure monitoring and fasting blood sugar testing for those with diabetes. 20. Pharmaceutical Biotechnology: Part Ia Emergent Technologies Where do Our Medicines Come From? NQ
The application of Biotechnology to modern Pharmaceutical Development encompasses a broad range of topics and utilizes various techniques and approaches from molecular biology to genomics. In this section we introduce the advent of Pharmaceutical Biotechnology providing first a Historical Perspective and some comments on Alternative Therapies(in Part Ia), to then consider the major Emergent Technologies. These emergent technologies include the influence of DNA-based tools on small molecule drug design, recombinant DNA drug design, antibody based drugs and vaccine development (in Part Ib). from there we consider the influence of genomics on personalized medicine. How will knowing all of our genes influence our knowledge of disease predisposition as well as drug metabolism and efficacy? A drug that may work well for you, may not do anything for someone else, or worse, even be harmful. In this lecture we first provide a historical perspective on pharmacy and drugs. The problem of human suffering has long plagued philosophers. An interesting dilemma is posed about what you may do during a train accident. Why do humans intervene? How did early pharmaceuticals develop? Why did the FDA form in the United States and what has been its legacy? Can we trust the FDA? What about the use of Alternative Therapies, like herbal medicine to treat some diseases? Do they work? Are they safe? Then we enter the modern era of drug development, based more on design and less on serendipity. Small molecule drug design has taken new routes since earlier days of drug discovery.
